Medicare Direct Password Management Overview
The Medicare Direct Password Management is a security enhancement to the Medicare Direct module that allows sites to manage the Medicare Direct Data Entry (DDE) logins used to submit claim data. Sites must obtain a user name, password, and PIN from Medicare, and then enter the information into the Medicare Direct Password Management configuration in order to submit claim data to Medicare for processing and payment.
Note: Note: If the site's Medicare Direct logins belong to users at that facility as of 11/7/2014, the current user names will be visible in the Medicare Direct Account Management screen with a status of Active. Any Medicare Direct logins obtained from Medicare after this date must be entered using the Medicare Direct Password Management feature.
The Medicare Direct Password Management feature consists of two configuration screens - one for supervisors to enter user names, and the second for users to enter passwords.
Medicare Direct Account Management
Supervisor/users will enter new Medicare Direct user names and associate them with the corresponding Claims Manager user names in the Medicare Direct Account Management screen. The user's account will be in New Account status until the user enters their password and PIN in the Medicare Direct Password Management screen. Supervisors will also use this screen to activate/deactivate temporary accounts used for high-volume processing.
Access to the Medicare Direct Account Management screen is managed with the Manage Medicare Direct User Accounts user privilege. Supervisor/users must have access to this screen in order to enter Medicare Direct user names and assign them to the corresponding Claims Manager user name.
Medicare Direct Password Management
After a Medicare Direct user name has been associated with a Claims Manager user, the user will receive a system alert prompting them to enter their Medicare Direct password and PIN into the Medicare Direct Password Management screen. Once the user enters and saves their password and PIN, the FinThrive operations team receives notification to verify the login. The user's account will be in Pending Review status while the login is verified. Users will also use this screen to update passwords as required by Medicare.
- If the login is valid, the status is changed to Active, and the account is ready for use in claims processing.
- If the login is not valid, the status is changed to Client Reset Request. The user will need to verify their password/PIN with Medicare and re-enter the information into the Password Management screen.
Access to the Medicare Direct Password Management screen is managed with the Manage Medicare Direct Passwordsuser privilege. Users must have access to this screen in order to enter their Medicare Direct password and PIN.
